Student Fellows | Stories Of UC Berkeley Library Now, the fellows have united those skills under one syllabus — a technical and artistic buffet bonanza. the student led course, or decal, is called “intro to making” and covers a wide range of mediums, from data visualization and 3 d printing to video editing and graphic design. Fellows are expected to foster connections between the library’s ecosystem and undergraduate communities by delivering peer to peer services in the makerspace. fellows are empowered to become library champions and contribute to the vision for the renovation of moffitt library.

Creating Community | Stories Of UC Berkeley Library Last year, as cracks from the pandemic spidered into nearly every part of normal life, the uc berkeley library’s fellowship program turned fully remote. the fellows proved resilient. but something was missing. Each of the eight fellows is an expert of sorts in four areas: data science, digital humanities, library research, and the makerspace (a design and innovation hub in moffitt library). come fall, there will also be fellows specializing in media creation and geographic information systems. As a library fellow, i have enhanced many of my skills and learned new ones, from graphic design to making vinyl stickers using the silhouette machine. i would not have realized that learning new art forms isn’t as time consuming and daunting when people have the materials and guidance they need. Fellows foster connections between the library’s ecosystem and undergraduate communities by prototyping creative solutions to library problems. this year, the fellows collaborated in two teams of four, each focused on a certain type of service offered by the library: making and research.
