We examine higher education enrollment and completion trends for african american college students across four year, public universities in the twenty states with the largest numerical african american populations (table 1). Discover the trailblazing impact of these 23 black education leaders shaping the future of higher education. From their humble origins through the 1950s and 1960s following the brown v. board of education desegregation decision, hbcus served as a key access point for african americans who sought to achieve political and social mobility through educational attainment.
