Today i’m posting an image of what is left of a star that died 12,000 years ago. the vela supernova is massive in size but this image i’m posting today focuses on the heart of the supernova. This stunning wide field image captured by vikas chander shows what remains after an explosive death of a massive star — the vela supernova remnant. the dramatic scene arose about 11,000. Description this image shows a deep high resolution view of the delicate glowing filaments in the vela supernova remnant located in the southern constellation vela (the sails).

Hoo with rgb stars, vela supernova region. captured through an advanced request at telescope live. Decided to get my other two favorite targets from the southern hemisphere. this was taken with a remote telescope so not much skill here for telescope setup but i did process the data :). this supe. Description in the constellation vela (the sails), are the glowing filaments of the vela supernova remnant, the expanding debris cloud from the death explosion of a massive star. in addition to the shocked filaments of glowing gas, the cosmic catastrophe also left behind an incredibly dense, rotating stellar core, the vela pulsar. some 800 light years distant. an area of the sky i keep coming. The vela snr is the remnant of a massive star that exploded around 12000 years ago, towards the end of the stone age. it spans approximately 8 degrees by 8 degrees, which is about 16 times the apparen.
