Daily Painting | Friday Afternoon - Emily Weil Art Emily weil is a graphic designer turned watercolor artist in oakland, california. her artwork is characterized by a deep exploration of inner creative space, emphasizing raw emotion. The art business has pretty much kicked my butt, and i’m stepping back from the grind of trying to be seen and to sell my work. it’s disheartening, the disrespect i’ve encountered in the last few years from galleries and other professional art entities. About contact red eye design daily paintings all watercolor, ink, intense sticks on paper | 12″ x 9″ | $150 ink, water soluble graphite on paper | 12″ x 9″ | $150 watercolor, ink on paper | 14″ x 10″ | $200. I can let go of worries and heartache at least for the afternoon. this painting started as a sheet of yellow/ochre paint. as it dried in the sun, a leaf floated down and landed on it, so i kept it on the paper and painted over it. then i did it again and it didn’t work, but the heart shape happened. the magic of watercolors thrills me.

Making art is making magic. even if i paint something i wouldn’t even show my guinea pig, this act of creation feels today like my heart is full of blooming wildflowers. Daily painting | damn chair when i was a little girl, the starry night sky enchanted me. that there were huge gassy balls of light a zillion miles from our planet helped lift me out of my sad body tied to earth and marvel at such miracles. Finally i started adding circles with oil pastel crayons, paint, crayons and pencils and kept going and started to like it. i’d truly given up on it (and on trying to do small paintings on boards altogether) so it was kind of a happy surprise. it seems cheerful, yes? kind of like a party. It felt breezy, summery. it also frustrated me and i started over on it a few times. at least this smaller piece was, in the end, more satisfying than a larger painting i worked on simultaneously which i may take outside and torch. 12″ x 12″ acrylic, pencil on claybord = $185.
