Daily Painting | Buckeyes - Emily Weil Art I picked these buckeyes up from a san rafael sidewalk a few days ago because they are so charming. goofy, lumpy and a rich chestnutty brown color which i will explore more with watercolor. the outer skin is starting to crack, showing a beautiful buff colored flesh. Emily weil is a graphic designer turned watercolor artist in oakland, california. her artwork is characterized by a deep exploration of inner creative space, emphasizing raw emotion.

Daily Painting | Sunday Whimsy - Emily Weil Art My collection of buckeyes gathered on a san rafael sidewalk a few days after thanksgiving is on its last legs; as they decay, they buckle and morph into lumpy, bumpy shapes. there’s something about these nuts that feel good in my hand—they are perfectly palm sized. The art business has pretty much kicked my butt, and i’m stepping back from the grind of trying to be seen and to sell my work. it’s disheartening, the disrespect i’ve encountered in the last few years from galleries and other professional art entities. I can let go of worries and heartache at least for the afternoon. this painting started as a sheet of yellow/ochre paint. as it dried in the sun, a leaf floated down and landed on it, so i kept it on the paper and painted over it. then i did it again and it didn’t work, but the heart shape happened. the magic of watercolors thrills me.

Daily Painting | Visitation - Emily Weil Art The art business has pretty much kicked my butt, and i’m stepping back from the grind of trying to be seen and to sell my work. it’s disheartening, the disrespect i’ve encountered in the last few years from galleries and other professional art entities. I can let go of worries and heartache at least for the afternoon. this painting started as a sheet of yellow/ochre paint. as it dried in the sun, a leaf floated down and landed on it, so i kept it on the paper and painted over it. then i did it again and it didn’t work, but the heart shape happened. the magic of watercolors thrills me. Depression can mask rage, i am told. well, yeah. for the past few days i’ve been lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon wheel rut. making myself put one foot in front of the other as keeping moving is helpful. took a nice walk yesterday (had to push myself out the door) and nature heals me and i spotted a gorgeous yellow orange western tanager in a tree. watched chickadees raid pinecones.
