"lars brownworth’s 'the normans' is like a gallop through the middle ages on a fast warhorse. it is rare to find an author who takes on a subject so broad and so complex, while delivering a book that is both fast paced and readable.".
The Best Normans Books Of All Time
The Best Normans Books Of All Time As a lover of history books but one that has read very little about the normans, i was very pleased to receive a copy of this book. i was expecting a large amount of this book to concentrate on the norman in england, but was surprised to find out about the crucial role the normans…. Brownworth definitely succeeds in explaining the main norman rulers and their feats. i was a bit worried about all the names and references but most of the time, a chapter or a few later, brownworth picks up and expands on the subject he mentioned before and one gets an excellent overview. From being raiders to becoming kings was a spectacular feat achieved by normans in less than a century. credit goes to their valor, foresight and exploitation of european politics. The question brownworth sets out to answer is: “how did western europe, which was militarily, technologically, and socially far behind its immediate neighbors in the middle east, manage not only to catch up with them, but to rise to global dominance?” he finds much of the answer in the normans.

I mean, i’ve read a couple of books focusing on normandy’s rulers, and obviously i don’t think a british schoolchild gets all the way through education without getting the date 1066 hammered into them and at least a vague idea about william the conqueror and the domesday book. "lars brownworth’s the normans is like a gallop through the middle ages on a fast warhorse. it is rare to find an author who takes on a subject so broad and so complex, while delivering a book that is both fast paced and readable.". The normans: from raiders to kings, by lars brownworth, is a fascinating book! it grabs your attention like a good thriller and holds it tightly while brownworth tells exciting stories about raiding vikings, warring fiefdoms and feudal states, popes and emperors, from the north sea to north africa, palermo to constantinople, and how they were. This book traces the normans from their viking ancestry to the end of the norman kingdom of sicily. of course, a lot of focus is on william the conqueror, but the meat of the book is about the normans who went to italy to find fortune and land.
