SimplePlanes | VTOL Fusing a multicopter (quad/hexa/octo copter) with a conventionally laid out aircraft is the easiest way to give a fixed wing aircraft vtol capabilities. each system is decoupled and used in its most effective state. You only need vtol engines (blasto vtol) you don't need a prop, or one of the regular jet engines. but, for them to produce thrust, you need vtol nozzle (s) (usually at least two on opposite sides of the aircraft).

SimplePlanes | VTOL It’s pretty obvious that some you should not use. Not sure what your collective is hooked up to, but i recommend making it separate from the engine throttle. also, make sure your center of mass is aligned with the axis of the rotor blades, that will help prevent tipping. Another use case is to use vtol nozzles instead of a normal engine and power them via a vtol engine, thus allowing for more compact trusters than when using normal jet engines, which can be useful for replicas. Notice how i pull the vtol controls back and the rcn nozzles to keep things reasonably sorted. i'm only decent at this part, but it's smoother than without rcns on.

If you're making a harrier, for instance, only use 1 vtol engine, 4 thrusters ( make sure the center of thrust is on the same z position as center of mass), and add vernier nozzles as needed for adjusting your pitch and roll midflight. In this guide you will learn the basic design and science behind vtol. the tutorial in sp talked about this, but not much. so, if you are still at a loss, then this guide will save you. As a thank you note to my followers, i have built this simplest vtol plane for those who have difficulty building vtol planes. this basic tutorial will help you with more complex vtol makes on your own.
