In this paper, we highlight six essential principles for integrating insights from foresight approaches into policy making, each with future research priorities, and presented in order of importance. figure 1 offers a conceptual map of how these principles fit together. We analysed the key trends and factors shaping the future of the covid 19 pandemic and other infectious threats. we developed four plausible scenarios which could inform strategic recommendations and define practical ways forward for improved pandemic preparedness. This exercise aimed to increase participants’ awareness of challenges and blind spots around pandemic preparedness, ensuring the world is better prepared for future pandemics. We present lessons learned from the application of foresight methodologies through remote, agile think tank sprints to inform the world health organization (who) western pacific regional office's (wpro) response to the covid 19 pandemic. In this review, we understand preparedness to be a set of precautionary measures to be taken in case of potential disasters and a key aspect of emergency management; the current situation, in the aftermath of a pandemic, offers space for learning and reflection for the future.
