Peer educators undergo thorough and developmentally appropriate training. during summer sessions, students learn the basics of domestic and sexual violence, consent, boundaries, power and control, and how to recognize red flags in unhealthy relationships.

Understanding things like the red flags of abusive relationships and understanding how to give and receive consent—these are things all people face and have very real consequences. These student leaders will facilitate education on relationships, consent, and sexual & interpersonal violence prevention as partners in cultivating a healthy and safe mason community. I was a peer educator throughout my undergraduate college years. i was trained to lead workshops on consent education, healthy relationships, sexual violence awareness, and other related topics.

By sharing personal stories about what affirmative consent looks and feels like, we aim to make consent education more accessible, actionable, and relatable to young people. Our time tested consent and healthy relationships assembly consists of carefully curated stories based on high school students’ real accounts of sexual violence. Education about consent, sexual assault, healthy relationships, and sex as a whole is so inconsistent, under supported, and yet, incredibly important. rape culture has been constructed, which means it can be dismantled; that's the core of the work to me.
