A History Of Research Excellence | UBC's Michael Smith Laboratories Since we know that making games can be both fun and educational, we thought we would offer some home instructions on how to make your own phylo cards and games. a pdf of quick instructions and worksheets can be found here; and full classroom lessons broken up by time can also be found here. Well, it’s an online initiative aimed at creating a pokemon card type resource but with real creatures on display in full “artistic” wonder. not only that – but it involves the scientific community weighing in to determine the content on such cards, as well as folks who love gaming to try and design interesting ways to use the cards.

Phylo In 2010 he initiated a fascinating game development process to develop a pokemon style science game, phylo, that can be modified by science museums and other institutions to address their own content. Building off the popularity of trading card games like pokemon, phylo showcases the many weird, wonderful, and wacky species that live on earth and deals with some serious threats to ecosystems, such as wildfires, oil spills, and climate change. Phylo (http://phylogame.org) is an exercise in crowd sourcing, open access, and open game development to create a trading card game (tcg) that makes use of the wonderful, complex, and inspiring things that inform the notion of biodiversity. Initially conceived as a response to research done by andrew balmford (where it was shown that children knew more about pokemon than real creatures around them), this project has evolved into a fully sustainable biodiversity card production web site. Prochlorococcus is a genus of very small (0.6 μm) marine cyanobacteria with an unusual pigmentation (chlorophyll a2 and b2). these bacteria belong to the photosynthetic picoplankton and are probably the most abundant photosynthetic organism on earth.
