To stay current on a wider range of topics and keep pace with fast moving consumer expectations, we launched the smart energy snapshot series in the summer of 2023. In this survey paper, we present an overview of approaches for engaging smart grid consumers and for providing them with information, motivation, and recommendations for energy efficiency through mobile apps. To meet customer expectations now and going forward, utilities need to make strategic, data driven investments to improve reliability, use more renewable energy, and provide intelligent tools customers need to make smart energy choices and save money. Consumers are overwhelmingly finding their energy data to be useful. in the “customer satisfaction and the smart grid” study, we also explored whether consumers are engaging with the energy usage data delivered by smart grid technologies.
