BMW: The Vanos Solenoid - TUNERWORKS
BMW: The Vanos Solenoid - TUNERWORKS Thinking about changing my vanos solenoid and i obviously know the choice to go with when wanting to purchase parts and i tend to stick to oem however, i wanted to get others feedback on whether there is a difference between the aftermarket (ebay, amazon) solenoids compared to oem. My car is throwing a code for variable valve timing sensor and o2 sensor. so i have ordered a used vanos solenoid off line and plan to swap them tomorrow hopefully it clears it up. guess i ought to get the o2 sensor while i’m at it even though it was replaced less than 10k miles ago.

Vanos Solenoid | BimmerFest BMW Forum I'm having various engine misfires and warning codes, and yesterday for the first time had hesitation when starting. so i thought i'd have a go at cleaning the vanos solenoid sensors. will also look at the coil packs and spark plugs next once i have and odb2 reader. When not to switch vanos solenoids? so i have read in many places that when troubleshooting rough idle, poor engine performance etc, it is common practice to remove, clean and then swap the inlet and exhaust vanos solenoids, typically on the bmw e90 range. You need to press in the metal retaining wire then slide the connector off the solenoid. once that's done, use a screwdriver to lever the solenoid out of the head. Screen clogging and solenoid failures are directly correlated with extended oci. at 160k miles i pulled my screens for cleaning, but they were perfectly silver and clean.

I decided to replace the vanos seals. i used a 10 mm flex head spanner to remove the bolts. normal socket is too big. there isn't much room in front of the screws. bank 2 side is easier and there is more room. start by removing a short tube. then the solenoids can be pried out by a screw driver. I found out that the vanos solenoid is easy to replace. a 15 minute job. does someone have pictures or diy instructions. i'd like to know where i can. Hi, i got a z4 e85 2003 m54 130k engine and am having trouble with it going into limp mode on heavy acceleration. my ltfts for bank1&2 are around 23% with stft around 0%. i've replaced valve cover, ccv system, rubber boots, manifold gasket, throttle body gasket, dipstick orings, vanos seals. checked fuel pressure static 45psi, running 50psi. Unlike the single vanos which usually needs to be fully replaced or rebuilt, the majority of the time only the solenoids need to be replaced. one additional option is to try to clean your solenoids, which is a simple process but is only a temporary fix.
