A client server application for the remote control of a wireless mobile robot (a small four wheel vehicle) is described. the application requires an onboard computer (e.g. a pc 104 or a laptop) running a java virtual machine (jvm) on the vehicle. The key result from this work is that the proposed archi tecture has been demonstrated to reliably and successfully control a number of mobile robots, via the wireless network, in a laboratory environment. Throughout this project, the techniques that can be used to control a mobile robot using hand gestures as an input to the mobile robot, which will consider hand as a wireless remote.
