Youth Engagement A Framework For Building Youth Resilience The centre of excellence for youth engagement defines youth engagement as “the sustained and meaningful involvement of a young person in an activity focussed outside of themselves.” (p.11). We work together to help other organizations and groups understand what works and what doesn’t work when working with youth, the value of helping to create opportunities for positive youth development and engaging youth to take on leadership roles. Youth thrive posits a research informed frame work for building protective and promotive factors for adolescents and young adults, ages 9–26 years old, particularly the most vulnerable youth (harper browne, 2014). The resiliencebydesign lab at royal roads university has developed a framework for youth engagement in risk reduction and climate change efforts. it promotes adults as allies working with youth through four key principles: partnerships, place, purpose and process. Youth engagement refers to the intentional and meaningful engagement of youth in all parts of a campaign or program, from ideation and design to implementation and evaluation. this happens by creating an environment where youth voices are heard without stigma or judgement. Taken together, the ci3 youth engagement framework presents a roadmap for how to design an affirming, generative space with and for young people, as well as how to show up in it.
